Our Trophy Shelf: The Awards Behind Leamington Spa’s Best Dentist Reputation

Ever wondered what a dental practice actually does with an award once the ceremony’s over? Mostly, if we’re honest, it sits proudly on a shelf in reception while we get straight back to the actual job: looking after your teeth. But every so often it’s worth stopping to look back at that shelf properly, so here’s the full story of what we’ve won, and why, going all the way back to 2020.

We should say upfront: we don’t do this for the trophies. We do it because we care, quite a lot, about getting things right for the people who sit in our chairs. The awards just happen to be a nice way of other people noticing.

2023: Shannon takes home dual honours at the Dentistry Awards 2023

2023 belonged to our Dental Nurse, Shannon Wilkes. We are thrilled to say she emerged victorious at the prestigious Dentistry Awards 2023, not just clinching the title of Dental Nurse of the Year – North, but going on to secure the coveted accolade of overall Dental Nurse of the Year. Not one, but two. We’re still not entirely over it.

Shannon’s unwavering commitment to excellence and compassionate patient care set a new standard in dental nursing that year, and her passion for the profession and exceptional skill were acknowledged by an esteemed panel of judges, reaffirming her status as a true standout in the field. The Dental Nurse of the Year, North award recognised her outstanding contribution to dental healthcare in our region, and her proficiency, attention to detail, and genuine concern for patients have made a lasting impact on the oral health and wellbeing of everyone she’s looked after. But what truly set her apart was the overall Dental Nurse of the Year title, a top-tier honour that named her the best not just regionally, but nationally, and one that spoke volumes about her exceptional competence, leadership, and the positive influence she’s had on her colleagues and the wider dental community.

Shannon’s success wasn’t just a personal triumph, it was a reflection of the collective dedication and expertise found across our whole team, and we’re not shy about saying so. If you’ve been looked after by Shannon at an appointment, none of this will come as a surprise. If you haven’t yet, you’re in for a treat.

2022: Leamington Spa’s most trusted

In 2022, we were recognised in Global Health and Pharma Magazine’s Global Excellence Awards, named Most Trusted Private Dental Practice, Leamington Spa. As Danielle Grafton, Media Executive at GHP Magazine, put it at the time, the programme was designed “to celebrate and raise the profile of industrious, hardworking and innovative professionals from across the globe”, while recognising “the key players who have maintained leadership in Medical, Health and Pharma industries” through what had been, in her words, “the most challenging past 2 years”. Recipients are handpicked by GHP’s own in-house research team through an internal process of analysis, shortlisting and selection, an approach designed, as the magazine puts it, to select candidates purely on merit, not popularity.

“Trusted” is a word we take seriously for exactly that reason. It’s not really something you can market your way into, it’s something patients decide for you, appointment by appointment.

2021: a hat-trick of recognition

2021 turned out to be a rather good year all round. We picked up Best Dental Practice at the 23rd annual Probe Dental Awards, hosted by The Probe, the original and most respected awards programme in British dentistry. For almost a quarter of a century, this prestigious event has recognised the outstanding individuals and teams whose commitment and drive continue to raise standards throughout the UK dentistry profession, and the judges were kind enough to say:

“Euston Place is a progressive practice with an inspirational team. Combining a strong practice ethos with good leadership, teamwork, training and collaboration skills that creates beautiful dentistry and a wonderful patient experience.”

That same year, we were also named Best Private Dental Practice at the Oral Health Dentistry Awards 2021, and separately, Highly Commended in the Leader of Prevention category at the Oral Health Awards 2021. That second one meant a particular amount to us: our award in the Leader of Prevention category recognises our aims, which focus on the prevention of oral ill health. We have a strong desire to help educate patients about ways in which they can prevent tooth decay and gum disease in the first instance, removing the need for reactive and potentially costly dentistry in the future.

2020: where it all started

2020 was, by any measure, a strange year to be running a dental practice, and it’s exactly where this run of good news began. We were nominated for Best Practice and Best Patient Care at the Dentistry Awards, the largest dental awards ceremony in the UK, which exists to recognise progress, effort and enterprise in general dental practice across the UK and Ireland. To even be nominated, a practice needs to represent the rising standards in UK dentistry and a genuinely higher calibre of patient experience, so we were thrilled that our team’s hard work and commitment had been recognised in what was certainly a challenging year.

When the results came in from what turned out to be an extremely successful night at the 2020 Dentistry Awards, we hadn’t just been nominated, we’d won. Not one, but three awards: Best Patient Care for the UK, Best Patient Care for the Midlands, and Best Practice for the Midlands. As we said at the time, we were so very proud of our team for these achievements during what had been a very challenging year in dentistry. It was, and still is, an honour to be recognised for awards that are testament to our team’s dedication and passion for delivering the very best in patient care.

We rounded off 2020’s collection with one more: Best Private Dental Practice in Warwickshire at the GHP Oral Health and Dentistry Awards, adding to the Best Private Dentistry, Midlands, and Best Patient Care, UK, wins from the Dentistry Magazine Awards the same year. Quite a year, considering everything else that was going on.

So, what’s next?

Honestly? More of the same: showing up, doing right by our patients, and letting the awards take care of themselves if they come. We’ll keep this page updated whenever they do, rather than leaving you to find out third-hand.
